How to Work with the “Delicate” Gen-Z Workforce

Let's get real: We've all experienced how "delicate" the Gen Z workforce can be. It's frustrating when they seem unwilling to tolerate the same workplace conditions that previous generations endured. But here's the truth bomb – Gen Z simply has zero tolerance for bullshit, and that's actually a good thing.

I hear business owners complain constantly about not wanting to hire Gen Z anymore.

Here's the reality check: They're the new workforce. They're young, relatively affordable, and absolutely crushing it when it comes to marketing and digital presence. So instead of fighting the future, let's figure out how to work with it.

How to Keep Gen Z Engaged (Without Losing Your Mind):

  1. Cut the Corporate BS Gen Z can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. Don't try to greenwash your medical spa by claiming you're "changing the world" with that 0.01% donation to a random charity. They'll respect you more if you're straight up about running a profitable business while maintaining ethical practices.

  2. Connect the Dots These workers need to see purpose in their work. When assigning tasks, always explain how their contribution fits into the bigger picture. Even something as simple as organizing client files can be framed as "This helps us provide better customer experience, which leads to growth and more opportunities for everyone."

  3. Embrace Flexibility (With Clear Boundaries) Yes, they want flexibility – and honestly, who doesn't? The key is to offer freedom in how they work while maintaining clear expectations about quality. Let them work remotely or during odd hours if possible, but be crystal clear about deliverables and standards.

  4. Be Ready to Justify Your Rules "Because we've always done it this way" won't cut it with Gen Z. They question everything from dress codes to meeting structures – and that's actually healthy. Be ready to explain why rules exist or be willing to change ones that don't make sense. Think of it like parenting: they'll respect rules they understand, but challenge those they don't.

Here's the bottom line: If you want access to young, tech-savvy talent that can revolutionize your business's digital presence and connect with younger customers, you need to evolve. The traditional 9-5 control-heavy workplace is dying, and maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Remember, Gen Z isn't asking for special treatment – they're demanding a better workplace for everyone. And if you can provide that, you'll not only attract Gen Z talent but also create an environment where all your employees can thrive.

The choice is yours: Adapt and grow, or stick to old ways and watch your competitors snap up the best young talent in the market.

Remember, it's not what you do but how you do it! Style supersedes everything!

As always, I am here to help you get ridiculously loyal customers, so let's get to it!
